The Douglas and Salena Johnson Fund

Though the generosity of Douglas and Salena Johnson, this fund will be available for Lakeview seniors who will be attending a Historically Black College or University.  Dr. Salena Cox-Johnson grew up in Jackson, MI and graduated from Spelman College with a BS in Biology and Wayne State University School of Medicine.  Her experience at Spelman taught her that integrity and excellence is the norm and not the exception for Black students.  Her wish to is pay it forward for future generations.

Douglas Johnson was a park ranger in Texas before moving to Michigan.  Once in Battle Creek he held management positions in manufacturing companies.  He advocates college education but does not believe that everyone must attend college to be successful.  Douglas believes that everyone should strive for higher learning.

In this spirit, the Johnson’s have generously donated to this scholarship.

The Lakeview community is thankful that the Johnson’s are choosing to invest in the future of Lakeview graduates and are choosing to focus on the unique opportunities offered by Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU) in the United States.

How to Apply: Fill out the linked application form and submit by November 1.

The Johnson’s also invite the wider Battle Creek community to contribute to this Fund so that additional post-secondary opportunities can be provided to Lakeview graduates.
