Randy Young has joined the LSEF Board of Trustees

Randy Young has been a resident of the Lakeview School District area since 1978 and has two children who attended Lakeview Schools from kindergarten through high school graduation. His two stepchildren also attended Lakeview Schools.

He has a Master of Science Degree in Accountancy from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology (with a minor in Psychology) from Purdue University. In addition, he attended the National Defense University, successfully completing the graduate level Chief Information Officer Certification Program.

Randy worked for the Department of Defense for over forty years, retiring in 2015. He began his career as an enlisted man in the U.S. Air Force and fulfilled his last 12 years of civil service as a director in the DLA Logistics Information Service. He was also an adjunct faculty member of Kellogg Community College, teaching accounting part-time for approximately ten years.

Throughout his adult life, Randy has almost always been involved in volunteer activities. Personal highlights include being a counselor for the Lafayette, Indiana, Crisis Intervention Center, and serving as president and senior coordinator while a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity at Purdue.

Since moving to Battle Creek, he was an empathy trainer for S.A.F.E. Place for approximately eight years, chairman of the Security Committee for a local credit union for three years, and county chairman for the Combined Federal Campaign in 2003. At a local church, he was a youth leader with his wife, Trudi, for many years. He also served as a deacon then as an elder and was chairman of the church board for six years.

Since retiring from the government in 2015, Randy has volunteered regularly at the Lakeview Food Pantry, and for two years he was a reading coach at East Leroy Elementary School (having to give that up due to the Covid-19 outbreak).

Randy feels very fortunate to now have this opportunity to serve for a time as a member of the Lakeview Schools Educational Foundation Board of Trustees.
